Our objective is to promote the educational and research ventures of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists and expand the role of the pharmacist in charitable projects towards better global health.

These grants may be in the form of fellowships or travel scholarships to support practice innovation, research and development or partnerships with one or multiple organisations, or corporate foundations.

The development and support of these projects have been the principal works of the Foundation since its inception.

We remember John Ware (Immediate Past Chair):

It is with great sadness that we must announce of the passing of our colleague John Ware, immediate past chair of the FIP Foundation for Education and Research. John became a foundation director in 2014 and served as chair of the foundation from 2016 to 2020. Formerly a community pharmacist, John was also a past president of the FIP Western Pacific Pharmaceutical Forum, which he played an active role in establishing in 2001, as well as a past national president of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia. In the Western Pacific Region, John worked on the rewriting of all government regulations for the manufacture and distribution of medicines in Vietnam and provided support for professional services in many countries and territories, including China, China Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Philippines, and Thailand. He was also a strong advocate for the quality use of medicines, pharmacist interventions, pharmacy education and interaction between physicians and pharmacists, both nationally and internationally.

During his lifetime, John was recognised for his services to our profession with many awards, including an Order of Australia (for services to pharmacy education, development of pharmacy practice and public health), a FIP Fellowship for services to international pharmacy, the Australian College of Pharmacy Practice and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, a FIP Distinguished Service Award, and Fellowship of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

The Foundation is grateful for John’s dedication, energy and contributions to pharmacy. He will be greatly missed by the international pharmacy world.
